How much would you like to pay for a fully rendered comic page?
Okay... so I was going to be doing a 240 pg comic book for some gentlemen over in England... but they only wanted to pay me $3.50 a pg.
That is so not a enough!
Come on... If I was to spend 10-15 hrs a page and be paid that much for the whole page how am I supposed to make a living?
When I told them I was sorry and I couldn't work for less than $25 a pg, which is like barely $5 an hour, they told me they couldn't hire me in that case and that they would get an artist from their publisher.
If you are getting a published artist, isn't he/she going to cost a lot more than $25 a page?!
Gah.. so. One art job down the drain.
I'm so far behind on my Birthday presents. They're coming guys!!!
Thank you sweety. I have my fingers crossed. I'm trying a bunch of different things right now, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
So what I'm doing, because that jerk turned me down, is that I'm doing my best to make your pages awesome so that he can see what he missed out on for not hiring me.
Haha, well you kow I'd be willing to commission for an art page because I was that first guy to ask as far as I know. XD *needs to actually start writing scripts for that webcomic eventually.*
haha. Yeah. Thank you so much. sorry I haven't called you back. I'm working at one job right now...not supposed to be on the computer. XD and getting ready to go to my other one. =3
That's exciting to hear! I can't wait to see what you come up with for your story.
Ahh, alright. Haha, yeah... the first page is going to end with a joke about The Dark Knight's take on superheroes... it's literally Ally before becoming Ally monologuing like he's about to jump down from a building in front of a mugger.... then getting hit by a dodgeball as it's revealed he was mentally preparing for gym class. XD
Sweetie, you know you're already charging very low and quite fair for freelance, anyone who thinks you should charge less has no respect for art, artists or YOU in general. If he thinks he can threaten you to make you charge less, then he needs to take his head the hell out of his ass. Ridiculous! >( People are lucky you aren't charging more! Especially when you think of it being a comic. Was it a personal project or a commercial one? If commercial, you should be charging more and have royalties per print.
It was a personal project but he already had a producer ready to go. They were offering me 50% of the profits... but if I'm going to be working on this project for 12-18 months what kind of compensation am I looking for in that long a haul? And what is the guarantee that the book will even sell? I already work 40-60 hours a week just to stay afloat and if I took that job on I would be work 20-30 hours each week on the comic alone... practically for free. If he had been willing to pay me the price I had set I could've quit one of my jobs, preferably the sucky one. It just wasn't worth it in the long run. But I want to be published so bad.
I was actually charging him ALOT cheaper than any other self respecting comic artist would've. [link]
You actually think my art is worth more than I put it out to be?
pineapple
Good things come to those who wait.
